How does rooting one’s phone affect its ability to uptate? For instance, when Ice Cream Sandwich comes out will you be able to get it?

I just tried this method following all the steps correctly on my Bionic (actually a couple times). It went through all the steps and it rebooted the phone a couple times, but on the last step a red error message came up instead of the message reading the root was successful. Something to the effect of “Start over and try again…hopefully your Anrdoid version still allows rooting”. Any ideas?

with Barnacle wifi teather ROOT access error… Barnacle requires ‘su’ to access the hardware plase make sure you have root access.
