Over the past week, Hurricane Irene has battered Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, North Carolina, and is now heading for the major metropolitan areas of the Northeast US Storm surge and flooding are the major concerns for coastal cities and towns, as total rainfall from this storm may exceed 15″ in some areas. Hurricane warnings and evacuations are in effect from North Carolina to Maine. From tropical wave on August 19th to Category 3 and back down to Category 1 on August 27th, Hurricane Irene’s movements are documented here in 30-minute imagery from the NOAA GOES-East satellite.

@4GroundsKeeperWillie funny because at least 40 people died and I still don’t have power back yet. Definetly caused damage. I have to spend my next couple weekends cutting up trees on my property. More than 1 million people were under mandatory evacuations in the northeast alone. Caused lots of damage
@operations1000 Are you a complete idiot? That is weather for you. It happens all the time. They say it is going to rain but there isn’t a cloud in sight as the day comes around. They all start as tropical storms as well.
Hmmm, something about this hurricane just doesn’t seem right or natural. It’s it strange they blew it off as some tropical storm that would just cause some rain then suddenly it ‘reclassified’ into a cat 2 hurricane that was going to cause massive damage?
Something seems fishy…
