Question by mm@oakland: Can a power outage cause an hdmi port to stop working?
I have a Sharp Aquos lcd tv. It has two hdmi inputs with a samsung dvd player, and a PS3 hooked up. They worked perfectly, then we had a power outage, and the next day the hdmi connections don’t work. I’ve already tried reconfiguring the devices (setting output to hdmi) with no luck. Could the ports be bad?

Anything is possible. The HDMI input is digital and the tv cpu needs to sync the data to the input device. With this being the case, this is a common phenomenon with power loss and probably just needs re-setting. Unplug the tv for a minute and then re-plug it in. The system will probably re-initiate itself and work fine.
